How it works

Tithi is one of 30 lunar days, each covering 12 degrees of separation between the Moon and the Sun: 15 in the waxing half, called Shukla paksha, and 15 in the waning half, called Krishna paksha. Nakshatra is one of 27 divisions of the sidereal zodiac that the Moon passes through. Both are worked out live in your browser.

Common questions

Why does this differ from my printed Panchang?
Printed calendars name the tithi running at local sunrise. This page shows the value right now, or at noon on a date you pick, so it can differ when the tithi changes during the day.
What is the difference between Purnima and Amavasya?
Purnima is the full moon, the 15th tithi of the waxing half. Amavasya is the new moon, the last tithi of the waning half.
What is Ekadashi?
It is the 11th tithi of either half of the month, widely observed as a day of fasting.
